Who this is for

Is this you?

We wrote this for three kinds of GPhC-registered professional. Most people reading this are at least one of them.

01

You feel real commercial pressure alongside your clinical judgement.

Sales targets, incentivised ranges, or informal pressure from management can genuinely tug against what your professional judgement actually recommends. This course names that tension directly and works through how to keep them separate.

02

You work in a genuinely public-facing role, not a private consulting room.

Confidentiality at an open counter, with other customers nearby, is a real, distinct challenge. This course treats it as the physical discipline it actually is, not just a general privacy principle.

03

A dispensing error or genuine dilemma has tested you recently.

Whether it's being open after an error, or working through a genuine consent question, this course works through the real reasoning, not just the rule.

The GPhC sets nine standards. This course covers the ethical reasoning ones.

Ethics and our upcoming Professionalism course are designed as a pair, covering the GPhC's Standards for Pharmacy Professionals fully between them without repeating each other. Here's where this course sits.

Person-Centred Care

Genuine consent and involvement, including in remote and distance-selling settings.

About this course

What it covers, and why

Course description

A 2.5-hour CPD course on the ethical reasoning side of the GPhC's Standards for Pharmacy Professionals, built for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. It covers person-centred care across every setting including remote and distance-selling pharmacy, confidentiality in a genuinely public-facing role, speaking up and candour when something goes wrong, and professional honesty under real commercial pressure.

Why it's relevant

Pharmacy occupies a genuinely distinct position among regulated healthcare professions: much of it happens in an open, public-facing retail environment, and many pharmacies are also commercial businesses with real sales targets. This course names both of those tensions directly, rather than treating pharmacy ethics as a generic clinical-ethics course with a different job title attached.

How it improves your practice

You'll finish able to apply genuine consent and person-centred care across every pharmacy setting, understand what confidentiality actually requires at an open counter, speak up and be candid when a dispensing error or other concern arises, including the apology itself, and recognise what professional honesty requires when commercial pressure is genuinely present.

What it covers

The course runs across five modules:

  • Person-centred care, consent, and remote and distance-selling settings
  • Confidentiality and privacy in a genuinely public-facing role
  • Speaking up and candour when a dispensing error or other concern arises
  • Professional honesty under real commercial pressure
  • Applying every standard together, with two full worked cases

Questions about this course

Does this course count as CPD?

+
Yes. It provides 2.5 hours of documented CPD learning with a certificate on completion, valid supporting evidence for your CPD record and GPhC revalidation requirements.

Is this course relevant to pharmacy technicians, or only pharmacists?

+
Both. The GPhC's Standards for Pharmacy Professionals apply equally to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and this course is written to genuinely serve both registration categories, not just one with the other assumed to follow along.

Does the course address commercial pressure directly?

+
Yes, directly. Module 4 addresses the genuine tension between clinical judgement and commercial targets or incentives that many other healthcare ethics courses don't cover, since pharmacy is uniquely positioned as both clinical practice and retail business.

How is this different from a generic clinical ethics course?

+
This course is built specifically around pharmacy practice, confidentiality at an open counter rather than behind a closed door, consent for substitution and OTC recommendations, dispensing errors specifically, and commercial pressure, not a generic medical ethics course with the job title changed.

Does the course cover distance-selling and online pharmacy?

+
Yes. Module 1 covers person-centred care in remote and distance-selling settings specifically, an area of genuine, growing relevance that GPhC has published specific guidance on.

Will this help if a concern has already been raised about me?

+
It will help you understand the standard you're being assessed against, clearly and accurately. It is educational, not legal advice, and doesn't replace representation. If you're facing a live GPhC concern, contact your defence organisation or professional body before acting on anything.

How long does the course take, and is it self-paced?

+
Around 2.5 hours in total, fully self-paced. Your progress saves automatically. Access does not expire.

Is there an assessment, and what happens if I don't pass?

+
Yes, a 15-question final assessment covering all five modules, requiring 80% to pass and unlock your certificate. Retakes are unlimited, and four shorter knowledge checks along the way don't count towards your certificate.

Who reviewed this course for accuracy?

+
The course content was reviewed by qualified healthcare professionals to make sure the standards, case scenarios and regulatory references reflect how these situations are actually handled in pharmacy practice.

Can my pharmacy or organisation enrol multiple staff at once?

+
Yes. We offer team access and bulk pricing for pharmacies, pharmacy groups, and organisations, with an individual certificate issued for everyone who completes the course. Contact us for organisation-level enrolment.
