Where are you in the process?

Match the course to the stage

Broadly, an HCPC concern moves from initial assessment, through investigation and a decision on whether there is a case to answer, and sometimes to a final hearing before a fitness to practise panel. Your union, professional body or indemnity provider can tell you exactly where your case is.

Stage 1

Initial assessment and the first letter

The HCPC reviews the concern and decides whether it needs investigating. Understand what is happening before you reply.

Fitness to PractiseInsight
Stage 2

Investigation and your response

You may be asked for a written response. A clear, honest account of what happened and what you learned carries weight.

InsightReflectionDealing with a Complaint
Stage 3

Case to answer

An investigating panel decides whether there is a case to answer. Evidence that the concern has been addressed is central here.

RemediationPreventing Repeat Mistakes
Stage 4

Hearing, and what follows

If a case goes to a final hearing, insight and remediation are examined in detail. After an outcome, the work shifts to rebuilding trust.

What these courses can and cannot do

They give you structured learning and a CrownEthics certificate of completion that you can reference in your own reflective account. They do not replace advice from your union, professional body, indemnity provider or a solicitor, and we cannot promise any outcome in your case.

If you have received a letter: contact your union, professional body or indemnity provider first, keep to every deadline, do not alter any records, and do not contact the person who raised the concern.

Questions answered

HCPC concerns & remediation — common questions

The questions HCPC-registered allied health professionals most often ask about this curriculum.

I’ve received a letter from the HCPC. What should I do first?

Contact your union, professional body or indemnity provider straight away if you have not already, and keep to every deadline in the letter. Starting relevant learning is a constructive step, but it does not replace advice specific to your case.

Will completing these courses help my HCPC case?

They give you structured learning and a documented record of it, which you can refer to in your own reflective account or remediation statement. We cannot promise an outcome, and we are not a substitute for advice from your representative or a solicitor.

What does the HCPC look for in insight and remediation?

In broad terms, fitness to practise panels consider insight, whether the concern has been remedied, and the likelihood of it being repeated when deciding whether fitness to practise is impaired. Check the HCPC’s own guidance for the detail.

What’s the difference between a concern, a referral and a formal investigation?

A concern is information the HCPC receives about a registered professional. Not every concern becomes a formal investigation, and many are closed at an early stage. Your representative can explain where your case is and what comes next.

Which course should I start with?

If you have just received a letter, start with Fitness to Practise: What You Need to Know, then Insight. If you are already building your response, Insight, Reflection and Remediation are the core three.

Do I need to be under investigation to take these courses?

No. Many allied health professionals take them after a smaller incident, a complaint or a near miss, to show learning early. If you are not facing a concern, our HCPC CPD courses may be a better fit.

Is there an assessment for each course?

Yes. Each course has short knowledge checks plus a final assessment, with an 80% pass mark to unlock your certificate. Retakes are unlimited.

Can my employer or union enrol several people at once?

Yes. We offer team access and bulk pricing, with an individual certificate issued to everyone who completes each course. Contact us for organisation-level enrolment.
