GPhC revalidation

What the GPhC asks of you every year

Quick answer

How many CPD hours do pharmacists and pharmacy technicians need?

The GPhC does not set a number of hours. Each year you submit four CPD entries, one peer discussion record and one reflective account. What counts is what you learned and how it affected your practice, not the time spent.

That makes the quality of your entries the point. A course gives you the learning, and a certificate naming the course, hours and date gives you something concrete to refer to. The entry itself, and the reflection on its impact, must be your own.

  • 4CPD entries each year, planned or unplanned
  • 1peer discussion record each year
  • 1reflective account each year, on how you meet the standards
  • 9standards for pharmacy professionals underpin everything you record

Summarised from the GPhC’s published revalidation guidance. Check pharmacyregulation.org for the current requirements and for how they apply to your registration.

I’m preparing for annual revalidation

Each year you record CPD entries, a peer discussion and a reflective account. Ethics and Professionalism give you substantive learning to write up, and Reflection helps you turn it into an account of how you meet the standards.

Questions answered

GPhC CPD & revalidation — common questions

The questions pharmacy professionals most often ask about this curriculum.

How many CPD hours do pharmacists and pharmacy technicians need?

The GPhC does not set a fixed number of hours. Each year you record four CPD entries, one peer discussion and one reflective account. Check the GPhC’s guidance for how this applies to your registration.

Do these courses count towards GPhC revalidation?

They give you learning you can record in a CPD entry, with a certificate naming the course, hours and date. The entry itself, covering what you learned and its impact on your practice, is your own, so write it in your own words and check the GPhC’s guidance.

Should I take Ethics or Professionalism first?

Either stands alone. If a specific ethical question such as consent, confidentiality or candour is on your mind, start with Ethics. If your situation is more about competence, professional judgement, team culture or conduct, start with Professionalism. Together they cover the Standards for pharmacy professionals in depth.

Can these courses help with my reflective account?

The Reflection course is built for exactly this. It shows how to structure an account, link it to the standards and show what changed in your practice. The account itself must be your own.

What’s the difference between the Probity & Honesty courses and Ethics?

Ethics covers the breadth of the Standards for pharmacy professionals. The Probity & Honesty courses go deeper into specific areas: candour, gifts and conflicts, dishonesty, financial integrity and rebuilding trust.

Are these courses suitable if I’m not facing any concern?

Yes. Most pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who take them are building CPD for revalidation or want a refresher on the Standards. If you are facing a live concern, our GPhC Remediation courses are built for that.

Is there an assessment for each course?

Yes. Each course has short knowledge checks plus a final assessment, with an 80% pass mark to unlock your certificate. Retakes are unlimited.

Can my pharmacy or employer enrol several people at once?

Yes. We offer team access and bulk pricing, with an individual certificate issued to everyone who completes each course. Contact us for organisation-level enrolment.
