Welcome to Ethics & Ethical Standards for GPhC-Registered Pharmacy Professionals (Ethics GPhC)

Welcome to this course

This course covers the ethical reasoning side of the GPhC’s Standards for Pharmacy Professionals: person-centred care, confidentiality and privacy, speaking up and candour when something goes wrong, and professional honesty. Our companion Professionalism course covers the standing conduct standards: partnership working, communication, professional judgement, and leadership.

The GPhC regulates both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, across community pharmacy, hospital, primary care, and increasingly distance-selling and online pharmacy settings. This course is written across that real range, not defaulting to a single high-street dispensing scenario and relabelling it for every other setting.

By the end of this course you will be able to

  1. Apply person-centred care genuinely, including in remote and distance-selling settings
  2. Understand what confidentiality requires in a genuinely public-facing pharmacy role
  3. Speak up and be candid when a dispensing error or other concern arises, including the apology itself
  4. Recognise what professional honesty requires when commercial pressure is genuinely present
  5. Apply a structured method to genuine ethical dilemmas, worked through two complete cases
