Welcome to Privacy, Consent & Chaperone (Chaperone)

Welcome to this course

A real, specific, current requirement most professionals have never read in full: you must not carry out, or supervise, an intimate examination on an anaesthetised patient for educational purposes without checking the patient has given consent in writing, or as a signed entry in their records. Verbal agreement given beforehand isn’t enough for this specific situation.

This course covers privacy, consent, and the chaperone’s actual role before and during an intimate examination, grounded in real, current, dated regulator guidance, not a generic “always offer a chaperone” summary.

By the end of this course you will be able to

  1. Explain why chaperones and consent are treated as a distinct, dedicated regulatory standard
  2. Apply the real, specific written-consent requirement correctly
  3. Describe a chaperone’s actual role, beyond simply being present in the room
  4. Apply the same standard correctly in a remote or video consultation

Who this is for

Any regulated health or social care professional who performs, supervises, or acts as a chaperone for examinations requiring genuine privacy. This is a genuinely common course, the underlying standard is consistent across GMC, NMC, GDC, HCPC, GPhC, and Social Work England.
