Welcome to Professionalism & Professional Standards for HCPC-Registered Professionals

This course covers the standing conduct side of the HCPC’s Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics, effective from September 2024: working within your limits and referring appropriately, communicating effectively, delegating and managing risk, and raising concerns, including a genuinely new 2024 sub-standard on bullying and harassment, and online conduct. Our companion Ethics course covers the reasoning-based standards, promoting service users’ interests, confidentiality, candour, and honesty.

The HCPC regulates 15 different professions, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, paramedics, radiographers, speech and language therapists, and more. This course is written to genuinely serve that breadth, using scenarios drawn from across different HCPC professions, not defaulting to one and relabelling it for the rest.

By the end of this course you will be able to

  1. Work confidently within your own scope of practice and refer appropriately when a situation is genuinely beyond it
  2. Communicate clearly and effectively, in a way that genuinely reaches the service user in front of you
  3. Delegate appropriately and manage risk as a standing professional discipline, not a one-off judgement
  4. Raise a concern properly, including about bullying or harassment, and meet the everyday conduct standard online
  5. Apply every standard together in a real, tangled situation, worked through a complete case

Five modules, four knowledge checks, and a final 15-question assessment. Score 80% to unlock your certificate.

  • Module 1 — competence, scope of practice, and referring appropriately
  • Module 2 — communicating effectively
  • Module 3 — delegation and managing risk
  • Module 4 — raising concerns, bullying and harassment, and online conduct
  • Module 5 — applying every standard together, with a complete worked case
